The most common mis-en-scenes in a horror film are closeups, dull lighting and scary music that creates the mood. The close-ups allow you to get the actors full reaction to whatever is happening in the scene. This shot shows the emotion that the director is trying to convey the most. The dull lighting is also common because horror is supposed to be scary. Having limited vision plays a big factor in that when things could be popping up on you left and right. It also plays on the small fear of the dark that most people have. Some popular horror films include The Conjuring, IT and more. We really enjoy the scary music. surprises and backstories aspects of horror films. But we don't like when the stories are based on true stories or when the common plot of that one character following after the weird sound.
