Genre research: Malcom and Marie
Hey, we’re back with our second Genre research blog. The movie we choose was Malcom and Marie which can be found on Netflix. The first thing showed was the location. It was a house surrounded by landscape and trees. Since the whole movie was shot in one location, the opening scene was them at home. However, it was different parts of the house, we want to film ours like that. We don’t want to just stay at one location, we want to at least have 2 locations. We don’t believe it’s possible for us to film and give the viewers a good idea of what’s to come with one location. In Malcom and Marie, as part of the opening scene, they included the cast members names. By cast I don’t mean just the actors seen behind the camera lens but everyone who was involved in making the movie come to life. Such as the producers, those in charge of makeup, hairstylist etc. As of right now we are undecided on if we want to include everyone's name in our opening scene. The scene itself is already short so we don’t know if we want to waste any time. Their first minute of the movie was just them driving up to the house while the names were shown. However, we can kind of do it like the Malcom and Marie and have the movie playing in the back while the words are displayed on top. Unlike them though we want to have more happening if we do decide to put everyone’s names. We’d do it like the Malcom and Marie and have the movie playing in the back while the words are displayed on top. Unlike them though we want to have more happening if we do decide to put everyone’s names. The opening scene clearly helped us see the bond and relationship between the characters. The opening scene was also enough for us to see and realize their emotions and how they feel. Malcom was jumping around the house, dancing singing and celebrating his success. Whereas Marie was seen sad and slumping around cooking the Mac and Cheese. We want our viewers to be able to sense our actors emotions.
